The freedom of speech that we enjoy in this country
is tempered by the responsibility to avoid making false
statements about others. When that happens, someone’s
precious good name can be permanently ruined. If someone
has falsely and publicly ruined your good name, Golomb
& Honik can help you pursue a claim for libel or
slander.
We have handled several such cases in the past, including
the following:
- A college used a former student's photograph distastefully and without permission in marketing materials. As part of the settlement of a lawsuit, the college agreed to stop using the photograph and to destroy remaining copies. Yet a college official later gave the image to students, who used it in a racially offensive poster as a class project. On behalf of the former student, Golomb & Honik attorneys won public apologies and a private settlement.
