Lead was once common in paint and gasoline—a
tragedy considering how dangerous it is to humans, especially
children. These dangers ultimately led to an enormous
number of lead poisoning lawsuits, making this at one
time one of the most common toxic torts.
Things have improved over the last three decades thanks
to increased public education and regulatory efforts.
However, too many children are still exposed to unhealthy
levels of lead every single year. When concerned parents
seek legal recourse, they discover that many lawyers
no longer handle pediatric lead poisoning cases for
a variety of reasons. Golomb & Honik is one of the
few firms that continue to accept new lead poisoning
cases—and we have a proven track record of success
when we do so. Read one example here:
- After her
family’s landlord refused to remove lead-based paint
from the apartment where she lived, a young girl suffered
cognitive and other developmental delays. Critical neurological
and neuropsychological evaluations were prepared and submitted
by plaintiff’s experts, facilitating a structured
settlement over the minor plaintiff’s lifetime that
exceeded $1 million. As a further result of the litigation,
the landlord was forced to abate the lead paint conditions
so that the residence would no longer pose a risk to the
young girl, her family, or future residents.
