Liquor Liability

Restaurants and bars have a duty, to those traveling the nearby streets and to those they serve, to ensure that people do not leave their establishments intoxicated to the point where they are unable to function or drive an automobile.

Liquor liability involves holding such establishments responsible for the often times catastrophic or fatal injuries that can result when they neglect that duty by:

  • Furnishing alcohol to persons under the legal drinking age, who then cause injury to themselves or others
  • Furnishing alcohol to persons who clearly have had enough to drink, who then cause injury to themselves or others, usually in an automobile
  • Violating federal, state, or local laws and/or rules governing the sale of alcohol, resulting in personal injury or death

Many of these accidents involve the use of an automobile after the driver has had too much to drink at a bar or restaurant. The lawyers at Golomb & Honik have handled many such cases and possess the experience, knowledge, and resources to hold the establishment serving the alcohol responsible for their actions. You can read more about our successes below:

  • $4 Million for Estate of Student Killed by Drunk Driver Bar surveillance cameras showed a mutual fund executive being served more than 10 drinks over a short period. With the assistance of bar employees, he then walked to his car to drive himself home. On the drive, he fled the scene of one accident only to swerve into oncoming traffic, causing a second accident that killed a college student. On behalf of the student's estate, Golomb & Honik attorneys successfully negotiated a settlement of more than $4 million from the driver and the bar.
