Levaquin Attorneys

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Nationwide

A popular antibiotic used in the treatment of wide-ranging bacterial infections, Levaquin has the unfortunate side-effect of increasing the risk of tendon injuries—specifically the Achilles tendon near your ankle and rotator cuff in your shoulder.

The nationally recognized product liability attorneys at Golomb & Honik represent consumers who have suffered the ill effects of dangerous drugs, including Levaquin. We are currently evaluating potential claims from Levaquin patients from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and across the country.

Uses of Levaquin

Manufactured by a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, Levaquin was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1996 for the treatment of bacterial infections including:

  • Bronchitis
  • Kidney infections
  • Pneumonia
  • Prostratitis
  • Sinus infections
  • Skin infections
  • Urinary tract infections

In the years that followed, Levaquin was linked to an increasing number of cases of tendonitis and tendon ruptures. In 2008, the FDA issued a black box warning for Levaquin, requiring new warnings regarding the increased likelihood of tendon problems.

Levaquin and Tendon Damage

Although ruptures of the Achilles tendon and rotator cuff are the most common injuries associated with Levaquin, the drug can contribute to damage in any tendon. Untreated, tendonitis and tendon ruptures may cause chronic pain and permanently diminish your mobility.

Levaquin was approved for use by adults, and all Levaquin patients face a greater chance for tendonitis and tendon rupture. However, there are additional risk factors for some Levaquin patients, including those who are:

  • Over age 60
  • Taking corticosteroid drugs
  • Recipients of heart, kidney or lung transplants

More recently, research has focused on a possible tie between Levaquin and Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, both of which are serious skin conditions with symptoms including rashes, blisters and fever.

If you were prescribed Levaquin and suffered tendon problems, please contact the Philadelphia product liability lawyers at Golomb & Honik for your no-cost case consultation. We represent victims of dangerous pharmaceuticals from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and across the country.
