Richard Golomb elected Secretary of AAJ

Richard Golomb, managing shareholder and the founding partner of Philadelphia’s Golomb & Honik, was elected Secretary of the American Association for Justice at its recent annual convention in San Francisco.

AAJ (formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America), has an international membership of 38,000 plaintiffs trial attorneys whose primary mission is “to seek justice for all … preserve the constitutional right to trial by jury … prevent future injury from occurring where possible … and, to champion the cause of those who deserve redress for injury to persons or property.”

Mr. Golomb’s election puts him in line to serve as AAJ’s President in the all important election year of 2012. He hopes to serve as Pennsylvania’s first President of AAJ since Philadelphia trial attorney David Shrager served as the then ATLA President in 1983.</p>

“David Shrager was an inspirational leader; generous educator; and, great trial lawyer that was the embodiment of the Philadelphia lawyer.  To serve as the first officer, and hopefully President, of ATLA/AAJ since he served 25 years ago, is an honor and pleasure,” said Mr. Golomb.

In nominating Mr. Golomb for the position, San Francisco lawyer Elise Sanguinetti described Mr. Golomb’s “quiet leadership style” and his relentless pursuit of justice for his clients and members of the plaintiffs’ trial bar.”  “Richard has always been given the most difficult of jobs because he always gets the job done.  When Richard asks, people do because Richard always does himself.”

Mr. Golomb has a national practice representing victims of chemical and toxic exposure; class members in the area of medical monitoring and consumer fraud; as well as those individual victims catastrophically injured by medical negligence, defective products and construction accidents.

A past president of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, Mr. Golomb currently serves as a board member of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice. Before becoming an AAJ national officer, he also served as a member of the AAJ Board of Governors for six years and as an Executive Committee member for two years.  He also serves as a trustee of the Civil Justice Foundation and Roscoe Pound Institute and as AAJ’s delegate to the Civil Trial Bar Roundtable for the National Center for State Courts.

Among his many leadership positions, Mr. Golomb was an elected board member of the Philadelphia Bar Association and served as chair of its Civil Rules Committee. He also served as a four year member of the Judicial Selection and Retention Committee and as a hearing officer for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Disciplinary Board.
